What does the cleaner remove?
It removes embedded EXIF, XMP, IPTC, text, comments, thumbnails and Content Credentials containers where present. These can hold GPS coordinates, camera details, timestamps, Lightroom or Photoshop history, AI prompts and generator names. The result lists the containers removed; it does not claim each one contained personal information.
Will the image quality change?
The tool copies the encoded image data without resizing or recompressing it, then verifies that data is unchanged. Keep appearance mode retains colour profiles and rebuilds orientation metadata with only the orientation value. For images up to 12 MP, it also compares the displayed pixels in your browser. Larger images receive an image-data check and a decode check, without a full display comparison.
Does this remove every trace of AI generation?
It removes embedded AI metadata and Content Credentials. Invisible watermarks inside the pixels remain, and services may still recognise the image or recover its provenance through fingerprints. This tool cannot make an image's origin undetectable.
Why retain some metadata?
Colour profiles, orientation and some format headers tell a viewer how to display the image. Colour profiles can also include identifying details. Choose Strip optional metadata to remove them too, accepting that colours or rotation may change. Dimensions, transparency and other image structure remain in either mode.
Are my images uploaded or stored?
The cleaner reads and processes your image in this browser tab. It does not send the image, its filename, metadata or hashes to a server, or save them in browser storage. Clear the image or close the tab when you finish. Your downloaded copy stays on your device.
Which files can I use?
Still JPEG and PNG images up to 25 MB and 40 million pixels. Animated PNG, HEIC, WebP, GIF, RAW and uncommon JPEG encodings are not supported. A file that cannot be parsed or verified produces an error instead of a download.
Does the file hash change?
Removing metadata changes the file's bytes and therefore its SHA-256 hash. If the file already meets the selected cleaning mode, the hash can stay the same. A different file hash does not prevent visual matching or remove pixel watermarks.
